Ethylene oxide (EO) is a crucial chemical raw material, primarily used in the production of ethylene glycol, surfactants, polyether polyols (raw materials for polyurethane), pharmaceutical intermediates, dyes, rubber, plasticizers, and resins.
In industrial production, EO is mainly manufactured through the direct oxidation of ethylene. Silver-based ethylene oxide catalysts are widely used in this process. In fact, they are the only industrial catalysts employed for the direct oxidation of ethylene to produce EO, representing a core technology enabling this process.
By adjusting catalyst parameters such as formulation, structure, and active sites, reaction conditions can be optimized to improve both the yield and selectivity of ethylene oxide.
